RED OAK — Last year, the Poteau Lady Pirates softball team won the Red Oak Tournament on a cold, almost-wintry night.
While it was summer-like conditions Friday night, the outcome was not the same in 2012 for the Lady Pirates, who lost 12-7 to the Red Oak Lady Eagles in the title game of this season's Red Oak Tournament.
It marked the second win on the day for the Lady Eagles over the Lady Pirates, who earlier beat Red Oak at home in eight innings. Red Oak beat Poteau 13-5 in the winner's-bracket final.
The Lady Pirates bounced back with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Keota Lady Lions in the loser's-bracket final. It was the second time in the tournament they had beaten Keota as they got past the Lady Lions 11-1 in the winner's-bracket semifinals after run ruling Buffalo Valley 9-1 to open the tournament on Thursday.
All other LeFlore County teams were eliminated prior to getting to the loser's-bracket final.
The Panama Lady Razorbacks lost 7-6 to the Lady Lions in the loser's-bracket semifinal game. The Lady ’Backs opened the tournament with a 10-8 win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets on Thursday, then lost 13-1 to the Lady Eagles in the winner's-bracket semifinals. In the consolation side, Panama then beat Buffalo Valley 6-4 before losing to Keota.
The Lady ’Jackets went 1-2. After losing to Panama, they outlasted the Howe Lady Lions 12-11 before losing to Keota 10-0 in the loser's-bracket quarterfinals.
The Lady Lions were the only winless team from the county in this year's event as they lost their first game 14-0 to the Lady Eagles before falling to Cameron.
