The LeFlore County Bass Club had its second open tournament of the season Saturday at Wards Landing on Wister Lake. There were 15 boats with 30 anglers who caught 35 fish which weighed a combined total of 80.95 pounds. The average fish weighed 2.31 pounds, and seven limits were caught.
Hauling in the title was the duo of Robert “Robbie” Brassfield and Keith “Stone” Jones, who caught 14.1 pounds of fish to earn $350.
Randy “Roland” Martin and Bucky “Big Rig” McGee were second (13.4 pounds, $210), which included McGee's big bass winner — weighing 6.3 pounds to earn him an extra $140.
Jeff “Everybody's All-American” Hardin and Dennis “Mister” Roper were third (12.4 pounds, $140), followed by Clyde Naylor and Paul Spangler (11.15) and Mackey and Wes Baker (10.8).
The water was still about 10 feet high at Wister, so it made it a little harder to catch the fish — well, at least for me.
The club's next tournament will be April 14 at Chicken Creek on Lake Tenkiller. This will be the third tournament of the 2012 LeFlore County Bass Club's circuit, and this will be the last tournament in which the club will accept new members.
