Thursday February 23, changed the life of one local family following a tragic motorcycle accident.
Samuel "Caleb" Davies , 27, of Poteau was flown by Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after he lost control of his motorcycle that afternoon.
According to the accident report completed by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Davies was traveling four miles north of Wilburton on State Highway 2 in Latimer County when the 2002 Yamaha Motorcycle he was driving ran off the right side of the roadway in a curve. The report states he lost control of the motorcycles, laying it over on the right side causing him to be ejected clear of the motorcycle.
Davies suffered multiple injuries in the accident including a broken arm and leg. He is still trying to recover from those injuries and is unable to work which has resulted in a struggle for his family.
He did however, make it a priority to attend the father/ daughter masquerade ball held this past weekend for local girl scouts and their dad's at the Days Inn & Suites. He was even able to stand out of his wheelchair and dance with his daughter Calen.
A benefit has been planned to help the Davies' family while Caleb continues to recuperate. On Thursday May 3 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Poteau Upper Elementary School there will be a live auction, bake sale and spaghetti dinner. For a $5 donation you can enjoy spaghetti, salad and bread. Organizers have said that take out is also available.
