We went to Wolf Ridge Golf Course last Friday night for its famous “Friday Night Steak Dinner.” We sat down with Jose' and Heather Chavez, Brian and Suzanne Free, Keith and Robin Marquez, Alan and Stacey McDaniel and Steve and Regina Peck. You might say it looked like “Date Night.”
We all had a really great dinner, and that's when The Gabe Cunningham Band fired up. Man, he sang everything — Stone Temple Pilots, Lionel Richie, Prince, Alice in Chains and Johnny Cash. We broke out on “Ring of Fire,” and the crowd went nuts — and it was a now a party!
Steve Peck and I were playing, “Name That Tune,” and Steve never missed. Shannon Burkhart joined the band for one song, and sang, “Let Her Cry,” by Hootie and the Blowfish. I love that song, and Shannon did a really good job!
Of course, we had a little trivia, too. I learned the three greatest sports moments of all time from Poteau's “Greatest Point Guard (Class of 1984)” and LeFlore County sports historian — Brian Free. They are:
No. 1 — Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak in 1941.
No. 2 — The Undertaker's 20-0 WrestleMania record.
No. 3 — Budd Davis scored an 83 in the second round of The Gilley's Rodeo to knock off Wes Hightower to capture the championship — and Sissy's heart — in “Urban Cowboy.” Some say Bud won that rodeo because he wore his uncle Bob Davis' belt buckle for good luck.
We had a great time, and we can't wait until we come back because that was the most fun I've had in a long time — and I was actually home and in bed by 10 p.m.! I just can't stay up late anymore.
A spaghetti dinner to benefit Caleb Davies will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Poteau Upper Elementary cafeteria. Cost is $5. For more information, call Amy Wise Dubina at (918) 721-5655) or Glenda Wise at (918) 839-4785.
Jacques and I have been fishing off and on at Spiro Lake since last Friday. We caught a bunch of nice fish. By Wednesday night, it started getting hotter, and we only caught two fish. It's close, and you can catch a lot of fish — and it's a great place to take the kids. So, go fishing!
Jacques is looking to buy a two-man water scamp. Any one who has one for sale, call me at (918) 649-7387.
Save the world — recycle.
God bless our troops and our veterans.
Have a great weekend.
