OKLAHOMA CITY — It was a short, and heartbreaking, stay at the Region II Tournament for the Carl Albert State College softball team.
The Lady Vikings saw their season end with a pair of losses Friday at Hall of Fame Stadium, losing 3-1 to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and 4-3 to Rose State. Carl Albert finishes the season at 16-34.
In the loss to NEO, it was a Poteau connection which gave Carl Albert a lead of 1-0 as two former Lady Pirates combined to put the Lady Vikings ahead as Katie Pierce's RBI single scored Katie Odom in the second inning.
However, the lead was short-lived as NEO responded with three runs in its half of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Carl Albert had only three hits. Pierce was 1-for-3 with a run batted in, Odom — who played her final games as a Lady Viking — was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Alli Eales was 1-for-2.
Holly Mock (10-25), who also played her last game for CASC, suffered the loss, despite scattering six hits in six innings of work while two of three runs she allowed were earned.
In the loss to Rose State, the Lady Vikings led from opening inning until one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
An RBI single by Jessika Nolen, playing her final two games in a Carl Albert uniform, put the Lady Vikings ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
Another sophomore, Kera Smith, doubled Carl Albert's lead to 2-0 on an RBI single.
After Rose State cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth inning on a home run, Carl Albert got that run back on Odom's RBI single in the seventh inning to make it 3-1.
However, heartbreak came in the bottom of the frame for the Lady Vikings. With one out, a three-run homer lifted Rose State to the come-from-behind win — and end Carl Albert's season.
In defeat, Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Odom was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nolen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Macey Carman (5-8) suffered the loss for Carl Albert, despite striking out five batters and scattering seven hits in 6.1 innings.
