WISTER — The bad news was the Wister Wildcats OK Kids prep baseball team lost a heartbreaking regional title game Friday night to the Stilwell Angels. The good news is the Wildcats are still state bound.
After the Angels scored twice in their the sixth inning to force extra innings, they scored once in the seventh inning to take a 3-2 victory in the 2012 OK Kids Regional Tournament at the Wister High School baseball field. The Angels (champions) and the Wildcats (runners-up) will both be at the 2012 OK Kids Preps State Tournament, which will begin today in Chandler.
The Wildcats reached the title game with a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Cameron Elite in the loser's-bracket final.
The Elite suffered back-to-back losses in the tournament, falling 10-6 to the Angels on Thursday before Friday's loss to the Wildcats, who lost 5-3 to the Angels in Thursday's second game.
In the tilte game, Brennan Davis hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2 for the Angels to force the seventh inning in which they scored the game-winning run.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead on a safety-squeeze bunt by Davey Bullard to score Colby McGee in the third inning.
The ’Cats looked as if they had scored a big insurance run in the top of the sixth inning as Bullard's RBI fielder's choice scored Koby Midgley to make it 2-0, setting up Davis' dramatic two-run blast.
Scotty Gibson was the hard-luck loser, despite striking out eight batters.
In Wister's comeback victory over Cameron, the ’Cats scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally from being down 6-4 to earning a 7-6 victory. McGee had the game-winning RBI double. He also got the pitching victory, and his RBI double was his only hit of the game.
Midgley was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Dillon Stallings was 1-for-4 with a dobule and three runs scored for Wister.
In defeat, Justace Wooley and Triston Thompson were each 2-for-5, while Samuel Humphries was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored. Humphries suffered the loss.
