The Heavener Wolves are on a two-game winning streak since losing a disappointing home opener two weeks ago to the Hartshorne Miners. Since then, the Wolves (3-1 overall and 1-0 in District 3A-8) have posted wins over Gore (31-21) and Valliant (47-17) in last week's district opener.
“We feel like we've turned the corner, and we've put that loss behind us,” said Carl Lee, Heavener's new coach. “We're heading in the right direction — or at least we think we're heading in the right direction. We're not looking back at that loss. We're just trying to get a good winning streak going.”
Now, the Wolves will get a stiff test Friday night on the road when they travel to meet the Roland Rangers (3-1, 1-0) for a 7:30 p.m. district game.
“They're a good football team,” Lee said. “They play awfully hard, and they're well coached. They have good players. They're going to be a good challenge for us. We're definitely going to have to play well, and go get after them to give ourselves a chance.”
The Rangers lost their season opener to archrival Muldrow 7-0, but are now on a three-game winning streak after posting victories over Panama (44-0), Okmulgee (40-6) and last week's District 3A-8 opener over Checotah (22-20).
