LaVerne Ward, 78, of Poteau died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. LaVerne was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Haywood to Earnest Daniel and Mable L. (Pollard) Gray.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hezzy Ronald “Bo” Ward and sister, Earlene Brannon. She was a homemaker. LaVerne was a member of the Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church for over 45 years. She loved gardening and reading. She loved her church and her family and fellowshipping with them all.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Pam Ward of Pocola, Danny and Tammy Ward of Bokoshe; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tim Sims of Poteau; four grandchildren, Elaina Moran, Danielle Barr, Blane Ward, Samantha Sims; great-grandson, Hayden Barr; four sisters, Lorene Solomon, Bernice Cole, Willie Solomon, Nancy Dupre; one brother, Bill Gray; her church family at Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and loved ones; many beloved friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Evans Chapel of Memories with the Revs. Delbert Hodges and Clinnon Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. to visit with relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers Gideon Bibles may be donated by contacting the funeral home.
