While the 2012 high school football playoffs do not begin until Nov. 9, they might as well begin tonight for the Heavener Wolves football team.
The Wolves are in a must-win situation Thursday night when they travel to meet the Stigler Panthers at 7:30 p.m. for a crucial District 3A-8 contest.
The Wolves (3-4 overall, 1-3 in district play) are on a three-game losing streak after losing 45-28 to the Spiro Bulldogs on Friday night at McClain Stadium. Heavener pretty much needs to win out to make sure the Wolves are in the playoff hunt.
“We're at a point now that we have to win every week to give ourselves a chance [to make the playoffs],” said Carl Lee, Heavener's first-year coach. “The kids are still just as fierce. We've battled injuries here and there, but they're still playing hard — and that's all anyone can ask for.”
To Get There — Take U.S. Highway 59 north to Sunset Corner, west of Spiro. Take Oklahoma State Highway 9 west to Stigler.
