OKLAHOMA CITY — Something had to give Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena as two teams with five-game winning streaks faced off in an early-season match-up.
The Memphis Grizzlies were coming off a trouncing of the NBA Champion Miami Heat 104-86 on Sunday, and were off to the best start in the history of the franchise at 5-1.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have turned things around after a 1-2 start to the season. The Thunder has played an NBA-high seven games this month and five in the past week.
Fatigue showed in the first half for the Thunder, especially late in the first half as the Grizzlies turned a 30-20 deficit after one quarter into a 56-45 lead at halftime.
Memphis still led 81-71 through the third quarter. The Thunder could get no closer than six in the final period and fell 107-97 to Memphis.
The Thunder travels tonight to New Orleans for a match-up with the Hornets at 7 p.m.
