Marie Ganote, 89, of Talihina died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Ganote was born in Keota on Dec. 10, 1922, the daughter of Columbus LeFlore and Edna (Tom) Carter. She married Kent Ganote in Wichita, Kan.
First of all, she was so proud to be a full-blood Christian Choctaw. She loved her family and always wanted to know if everyone was OK. She loved visiting with people and telling her life stories. She had a love for animals and fed strays all over town by carrying something for them in her pockets. Most of all she loved God and her way of saying goodbye was with a smile saying: “Be careful. Pray. God Bless.”
She is survived by her son, Ted and Darlene Ganote of Tulsa; daughters, Paula Ritter of Cameron; Regina and Don Mings of Talihina; grandchildren: Kevin, Chris and wife Sheila, Joanie, and Terry Ganote, Keith and wife Michelle Mings, Gregory and wife Raquel Mings, Britni and husband Michael Landers and Tawni Mings; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
Mrs. Ganote was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Baby Boy Ganote; sister, Belle Smith; and son-in-law, Cleo Ritter.
A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 17, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Talihina. The Rev. Raymond Johnson and grandson Keith Mings officiated. Pallbearers were Ted Ganote, Don Mings, Kevin Ganote, Chris Ganote, Keith Mings and Gregory Mings. Burial was in Old Talihina Cemetery.
Talihina Funeral Home handled arrangements.
