The Panama High School basketball teams will get their seasons started tonight at Wilburton, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at approximately 8 p.m.
The Lady Razorbacks were 12-12 last season, and return four starters from that team.
“We have several quality players returning from last year, as well as some returning from injury,” said Dennis Wright, Panama's coach. “We also add a good group of freshmen to the team. If everyone accepts their roles, maintain our positive attitudes and continue our strong work ethic — and avoid major injuries — we have the opportunity to become a very good basketball team. We have a great team chemistry.”
This season, not only will Wright coach the Lady Razorbacks, he will also coach the Hogs — replacing veteran coach Greg Nichols, who retired to take the assistant basketball coaching job at Greenwood (Ark.) High School.
The Razorbacks were 9-13 last season, but only return one starter from that team.
“We're not really sure what to expect this year as we must replace several players from last year,” Wright said. “We should improve as the year progresses, and the boys adjust to a new coach and style of play — as well as continuing to improve as basketball players.”
