For two local schools, their basketball teams received good news when the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association announced the Class A and B District Tournament assignments on Thursday.
In Class A, the Cameron teams will be host sqauds, with Panola and Kiowa coming to town. The Kiowa Cowgirls feature former Panama player Lauren Smith.
However, there's three upset schools in Class A — Arkoma, Keota and Gans. All three schools were put into the same district, and all three girls coaches — Arkoma's Connie Ray, in particular — were disappointed since there's going to be one excellent girls team knocked out in the district tournament when all three should have at least had the chance to get to the regional tournament.
The Whitesboro teams are the other happy campers as they received word they will be Class B District Tournament hosts, welcoming Battiest and Eagletown to the newly named Steve Linker Gymnasium.
The Bokoshe teams and Leflore's boys were sent on the road for their Class B District Tournament.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers were sent to McCurtain along with Hanna, while the Savages will join Graham (Weleetka) at Kinta. The Lady Savages will end up forfeiting the remainder of their season due to not having enough players due to one of the players suffering an injury in the Rock Island Conference Shootout earlier this month.
