Arkoma football team looks to rebound Friday night at Sasakwa

The Arkoma Mustangs football team didn't get to open its home season last Friday night the way it had hoped. The Mustangs suffered a 56-6 loss to the Maud Tigers, but Mark Weatherton, Arkoma's coach, is quick to point out that his team may have played the best team in District C-4.“They're an exceptional team,” Weatherton said. “They're well coached and are physical. They have some speed. If they're not the top team to beat in the district, they're certainly one of the teams to beat. I thought we'd play better than we did that night, but they're capable of doing that to a lot of teams. I told the kids after the game that it's just one district game. We didn't get it, and we need to go win the others. It didn't end our playoff chances, that's for sure.”This week, the Mustangs (1-2, 1-1 in District C-4 play) will hit the road again to meet the Sasakwa Vikings (2-1, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. While it's not a game, the Mustangs have to have, they really would like to get the victory.“It's not a must-win game, but it's awfully close,” Weatherton said. “We've got some teams on our schedule that we can beat, and this is one of them. We need to go play well. If we go take care of business, and play the way we're capable of, it ought to be a great game. This is one of the teams we need to beat if we want a good shot at making the playoffs.”— — —District C-4 StandingsTeam District Overall +/-Arkoma 1-1 1-2 0Maud 2-0 3-0 +30SW Covenant 1-0 1-1 +15Thackerville 0-0 0-2 0Webbers Falls 1-0 3-0 15Bokoshe 0-2 0-3 -30Midway 0-2 0-3 -30Sasakwa 1-1 2-1 0— — —To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 9A west to Oklahoma State Highway 9.
