Bruce Curnutt announces cadidacy

First I would like to thank the citizens of LeFlore County for the opportunity of serving as your Sheriff for the last four years. It has been both an honor, and a privilege that you placed your confidence in me to allow me to serve you. I am formally announcing my candidacy to serve as your Sheriff for another term. My wife Francine Curnutt, who is a career educator of 26 years at the Wister Public School system, along with my two daughters Callie and Andrianna, and myself live in the Wister community. We have lived on the same small farm for 20 years where we raise Boer show goats, horses and Adrianna's cats. We are members of the Wister First Baptist Church, and also have a special love for the Heavener First Baptist Church, and brother Sam Dyer. I enjoy all forms of hunting with my daughter Callie, and helping my daughter Adrianna showing Boer goats all over the state. i was born in Talihina, and graduated from Talihina High School, and am proud to call LeFlore County my home. I am also a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. During my first term as your Sheriff, I have assembled a first rate staff of both deputies, and communications officers. The deputy staff consists of three former Chief's of Police, one former Undersheriff, and one former Corrections Emergency Response Team Commander who was also the desingated sniper for the Department of Corrections at Jim Hamilton. All of the current deputies have from 4 to 24 years of experience with a total of over 165 years total experience. I now have initiated a SOR or Sex Offender Registry Officer, who is responsible for keeping, and maintaining offender files along with doing monthly compliance checks, and applying for warrants if not in compliance with their conditions of probation. Consequently we are in the top 10 percentile of sex offender compliance in the state. During my term I have added and Investigator who along with answering calls has been responsible for writing and serving over 30 narcotics search warrants in the past year, many resulting in the discovery of working Methamphetamine drug labs, and the recovery of items taken during burglaries in our county. I have also hired one deputy who is now solely responsible for Courthouse Security. We have updated camera, and other security measures in the courhouse. Our office has also received two Commendations by the U.S. Marshals services for assistance in identifying, and arresting offenders, one during Poerations Falcon 2009, and the second on for a Sex Offender Sweep during 2012, both were very successful. Hand in hand with law enforcement I have put together an excellent staff of Communication offiers, who along with answering five lines on the regular telephone, must answer the 911 phone, as well as answering and relaying information to agency officers on the police radio. These communication officers have a total of over 34 years of experience. I have applied for and received over $60,000 in federal and tribal grand money therefore saving taxpayers dollars for needed equipment with no matching funds required. During my years in law enforcement, I have attained an Advanced Certification in Law Enforcement from the Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET). I am aslo certified in Clandestine Drug Labs, both in take down and cleanup. I have attened too may CLEET coureses to mention, but have attained over 900 hours during these classes. I also have an Associate degree in Psychology from Carl Albert State College in Poteau. Lastly, I humbly ask for your vote on June 26th to serve as your Sheriff for another term. It has been a pleasure to serve you, and I look forward to visiting with you on the campaign trail ahead to answer your questions.Bruce Curnutt
