Buccaneers blank Rebels at PeeWee State Tournament; Buccaneers played in winner's-bracket semifinals Wednesday night, while Rebels stave off elimination to play tonight

CUSHING — The one sure thing which was going to come out of Tuesday night's meeting between the Poteau Buccaneers and the Poteau Rebels at the OK Kids PeeWee State Tournament was that a Poteau team was going to advance to Wednesday night's winner's-bracket semifinals. That team was the Buccaneers, who blanked the Rebels 3-0.The Buccaneers played the host Cushing Tigers Wednesday night, with the winner meeting the winner of Wednesday night's other winner's-bracket semifinal between the Coleman BRW and the Shawnee Spikes at 8 p.m. tonight for the right to get to the state title game at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Poteau Buccaneers-Cushing loser will play at 4 p.m. this afternoon against the winner of the elimination game between the Clinton White and the Blanchard Lions.The Rebels stayed alive in the tournament as they run ruled the Stroud Tigers 13-1 in four innings Wednesday afternoon. They will play at 6 p.m. tonight against the loser of Wednesday night's Coleman-Shawnee game in the loser's-bracket quarterfinals. Tonight's winner will advance to the loser's-bracket semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday and must win twice that night to get to the state title game at 6 p.m. Saturday.In Tuesday night's game, the Buccaneers scored once in the first inning and twice in the fifth inning. Their pitcher, Hunter Sebo, struck out eight batters to get the shutout victory.Mason Barcheers was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, Ty Downs was 1-for-2 and Easton Francis had an RBI for the Buccaneers. Kass Fenton made some stellar defensive plays to help keep Sebo's shutout bid intact.Jett Carver struck out five batters, but was the hard-luck loser for the Rebels.In the Rebels' win on Wednesday, they broke open a close game with a six-run second inning and a four-run third inning.Spencer Wells pitched the first three innings to get the win. Matthew Holzhammer pitched the final inning to close it out — thanks to two strikeouts in that frame.For the game, Austin Place was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Tucker Garrett was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Wells aided his own cause with a 3-for-3 outing with two doubles. Joining Wells with a perfect game at the plate were Jaxon Dorsey and Will Hammons, who were each 3-for-3 as well.
