Cameron man arrested after alleged manhunt

A Cameron man who was arrested about 10 months ago after allegations of committing a sex crime against a 15-year-old is back behind bars after leading police on a manhunt. Johnny Carter, 72, was reportedly a bus driver and coach at Union Christian Academy in Fort Smith when the incident allegedly occurred. In November 2012, Carter was booked into the Sebastian County (Ark.) Detention Center on fourth-degree sexual assault charges in connection with the allegations, according to jail records. He was later released after posting $10,000 bail.According to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs with the Fort Smith Police Department, investigators received information Carter was maintaining contact with the 15-year-old minor he is accused of sexually assaulting. A warrant was issued for Carter's arrest and investigators conducted surveillance of a planned meeting between Carter and the youth at the Walmart in Greenwood, Ark., according to Grubbs. Carter fled from the location into a nearby wooded area, according to Grubbs, but at about 5 p.m. that day he was apprehended by Greenwood Police when they reportedly found him hiding on the roof of a set of storage units on Arkansas Highway 10 near Greenwood.
