Donations sought locally for American troops

Donations of food, toiletries, entertainment and more are being accepted for American troops as part of "Operation Combat Boots & Dog Tags" at Cricket Wireless in Poteau.

Suggested food items include heated foods like canned soups, "ready-to-eat" food such as tuna or chicken pouches, drink mixes like coffee or Kool-Aid, snacks and "just-add-water" items such as mac and cheese or ramen noodles. Items cannot be perishable, microwavable or homemade. All food times must be individually packaged or wrapped.

Toiletries and hygiene products also will be accepted related to dental hygiene, first aid, feminine hygiene and personal hygiene such as soap, shampoo, deodorant and similar products. Travel size products are suggested, but not mandatory.

Entertainment items can also be donated, such as cards, headphones, stationary with stamps, envelopes and pens, CDs, batteries and more. Other miscellaneous items include Ziploc bags, detergent, small tool kits, Duct tape and similar items.

The next campaign to help troops will be called "Operation 001 Sending Our Troops a Little Piece of Home!"

Donations can be dropped off at Cricket Wireless 712 S. Broadway in Poteau. Other ways to contribute include donating through PayPal to operationbootstags@gmail,com by using the family and friends option.
