In the wake of severe weather and the severe weather season, LeFlore County Emergency Management released a list of safe rooms in LeFlore County that will be open for public use during severe weather.

"We recommend that if you plan to utilize one of the listed safe rooms during severe weather you pre-plan your route, learn the exact location of the safe room, how to access it and learn what the expected drive time is to allow for adequate time to drive to the safe room before the storm is over the immediate area," LeFlore County Emergency Management said. "During a tornado is not the time to try and find a safe room."

Forecasts show an elevated risk for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods for southeast Oklahoma overnight Tuesday and into the early Wednesday morning hours.

Locations include:

Arkoma: Arkoma Elementary and High School.

Heavener: Safe room between Heavener High School and Elementary and safe room across from the First Baptist.

Howe: Safe room at Howe High School gym.

Leflore: Safe room at Leflore Public Schools gym.

Panama: Safe room at Panama Public Schools middle school.

Poteau: Safe room at Poteau Public Schools high school, upper elementary and middle school.

Spiro: Safe room at Spiro Public Schools high school.

Wister: Safe room behind the new gym at Wister Public Schools.

For questions on when the room will be opened, LeFlore County Emergency Management said to call the operating facility.
