Heavener boys soccer team wins Stilwell Tournament

STILWELL — The Heavener Wolves will return to district play at Fort Gibson on Friday with some momentum.The Wolves won the Stilwell Tournament on Friday with a 5-0 win over the host Indians in the title game.The Wolves won their first two games, beating Wagoner 3-0 and Tahlequah 2-0 on Thursday to reach the finals.In the championship game, five different players scored for the Wolves (6-0). In the first half, goals by Rey Diaz, Miguel Alcantar and Luke Culpepper put Heavener ahead 3-0.Jesus Benitez and Neftali Bravo each scored goals in the second half to ice the game.Erick Lopez had no saves in the championship game because his team's defense prevented the Indians from getting a shot on goal.In the win over Wagoner, the Wolves got two goals from Diaz and one from Bravo in the first half for a 3-0 halftime lead. Lopez made one save.In the victory over Tahlequah, the Wolves scored once in each half. Alcantar's goal put them up 1-0 at halftime, then Rogelio Serrano's goal in the second half provided some insurance.Lopez had two saves for Heavener, which will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Gibson, in a game which will likely have a major impact in determining the district champion.The Lady Wolves will play in the game just before at 5:30 p.m. against the Lady Tigers in another game which could determine the district champion on the girls' side.
