Heavener cross country runners see season end at regional meet

HENRYETTA — The Heavener High School cross country teams saw their seasons come to an end at Saturday's Class 3A Regional Meet as neither the teams nor individuals qualified for this weekend's state meet at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center in Shawnee.The Lady Wolves had only two individuals as Gloriann Staines was 61st (16:37) and Brenda Macias was 84th (19:56).The cut-off mark for state-meet qualification was around 13:30.The Wolves finished in eighth place in the team standings with 181 points, one team spot behind the final state-qualifying team — Oktata in seventh place with 173 points.Arturo Ortega was Heavener's highest placer, coming in 35th (20:59). Octavio Sanchez was 39th (21:22), Frank Cruz was 41st (21:26), Esteban Martinez was 53rd (22:57) and Jacob Robertson was 59th (24:06).The cut-off time to make state was around the 20-minute mark.
