Heavener Wolves have home football opener Friday night against Hartshorne

Things could not have started any better for the Heavener Wolves football team than what happened in Friday night's 35-0 season-opening win on the road over Union Christian Academy in Fort Smith, Ark.“The kids came out and played hard,” said Carl Lee, Heavener's new coach. “We have some areas in which we need to make corrections. It was a good confidence builder, and it was good to get things started on the right foot.”Now, the Wolves (1-0) will try to get their home season off the same way when they entertain the Hartshorne Miners at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Harvey Stadium. The Miners (0-1) lost 28-14 to the Henryetta Knights in their home opener last Friday night. For the past two seasons, when these two teams met, it was a District 2A-6 contest, but for this season and the next the Wolves will be in District 3A-8. Still, Friday night's match-up will be a fun one.“We expect a good crowd on Friday night, and it's good to be home — especially since it's Hartshorne,” Lee said. “This used to be a district rival. They took it on the chin last week, and they're looking forward to come here and get after it. We have to be prepared. We need to be focused this week, so we can have a chance on Friday.”
