Missing airplane found; pilot dead

The search for a missing plane believed to have crashed near Muse has come to an end after search crews located the wreckage and the pilot who was killed in the crash. According to the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department, the crash site was located at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The search began Tuesday after Elmer Broadbent, 71, of Heber Springs, Ark., was reported to have not made it to his destination by his wife. Thursday morning the Civil Air Patrol from Tulsa, which was assisting in the search found a weak transponder signal in the southwest portion of LeFlore County, according to the sheriff's department. Search crews focused on the area the signal was reported from and within hours had located the plane just inside Pushmataha County, officials said. According to LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan, the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the wreckage. Broadbent's body will be sent to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death, according to Morgan.
