My scoop of Mother's Day raspberry ice cream?

First of all, I forgot to wish my mother, JoAnn Mattox, and my wife, Jenny, a Happy Mother's Day last week. For some strange reason, I thought Mother's Day was this Sunday instead of last Sunday — I was a week behind.Sometimes I wonder if my elevator goes all the way to the penthouse? Anyway, Happy Belated Mother's Day, ladies.FYI — I now keep a huge calendar on the kitchen table, and write everything down so I just don't forget anything any more.Mother's Day SundayJenny wanted to go to the Movie Lounge for Mother's Day Sunday brunch. There was all kinds of great foods, and live music. After dinner, I couldn't wait to get to the dessert buffet because I had my eye on a big piece of chocolate cake. I ran up there with a huge smile on my face when I picked up my piece. Then, I turned to walk back to my table when I saw a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream. I thought to myself, “Jody, that ice cream would make that cake so much better!” I got a big ol' scoop, and dumped it right on top of my chocolate cake.I sat down, wrapped my napkin around my neck (safety first, you know). put on my glasses (so I could see everything) and dug in!As I was preparing to eat my first bite, a server came running over to me like I stole something. She said, “Sir, sir!” She told me that the ice cream that I got was really raspberry butter. Say what? I was wondering why it was sitting out by the rolls and wasn't melting? It just looked like ice cream — like I said before, my elevator does not go all the way to the top sometimes. The server thought it was funny, and brought out the pastry chef, Ashley Carver, who is from Poteau. After we all had a good laugh, I told her how much I loved her chocolate cake. She then brought out one of every dessert that she had prepared to let me sample — thank you, Ashley!By the way, my son, Jacques, got a Mother's Day card for his mom. It read, “You're so lucky — I'm an only child!” Oh, that boy, but he may be right.Benefit DinnerThere will be a benefit all-you-can-eat catfish dinner for Billy Ray Shadwick 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lumberjack Cafe on U.S. Highway 59 next to Ron's Discount Lumber.
