The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting the first three laboratory-confirmed cases of flu in Oklahoma for the 2015-2016 flu season.

The department said Thursday that two of the cases are in Tulsa County and the third is in Oklahoma County. There are no reports of flu-related deaths.

The health department says surveillance shows that influenza-like illnesses are elevated in Tulsa County. Influenza-like illness is defined a fever of above 100 degrees combined with a cough and/or a sore throat.

A record 114 people died due to flu during the 2014-2015 flu season and about 2,200 people were hospitalized.

Health officials say the best way to protect against flu and its consequences is to get the flu vaccine.
