OU takes care of Kansas, gets ready for Notre Dame

NORMAN — The Oklahoma Sooners did just what they were expected to do against the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday night at Owen Field — picked up an easy 52-7 win.The Sooners (5-1, 3-1) picked up their third straight victory, and have played very well since their loss to Kansas State a few weeks ago. OU picked up a couple of school records Saturday, including the first game in which they have returned both a punt and kickoff for a touchdown. Those two returns also marked the first time the Sooners have had two plays of at least 90 yards in the same game. With the victory, OU set up a Top-10 showdown with the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Owen Field.Landry Jones finished 19-of-28 in passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns for the Sooners as the offense and defense played well.“Obviously, I feel very good about the way our guys played,” said Bob Stoops, OU's coach. “I thought offensively we were excellent. Again, Landry was throwing the football, route running and making big plays. I thought we ran the ball well. We chose not to run it quite as much because we felt we had opportunities to throw it. When we did run it, at times again, it was pretty good. Then defensively, it was another game where the first group doesn't give up any points, and they get some yards there at the end and our back-ups give up a touchdown. It was just a great game defending them and coming up with turnovers and big plays. We didn't have many punts, but the kickoff covers were great. Then, we bust a kickoff return and punt return for a touchdown. It was another really solid game. Now, it's on to Notre Dame.”
