Pocola Indians look to continue momentum tonight into Hartshorne

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians ended their two-game losing streak in dramatic fashion last Friday night at John Carter Field with a thrilling 34-33 upset win over the Talihina Golden Tigers.“Because of the way we played against Wilburton and lost by one point, I just told the kids we're a point away from being 2-1 in the district,” Pocola Coach Rick Lang said. “It was a big win. To get a win like that, it did wonders for our program. I told the kids that it (the Talihina) win put smiles on the faces of the community. They're starting to come out and watch them play, and will watch them play this week. It's not been like that in a couple of years, so it was a big win.”But the Indians (4-2 overall, 1-2 in District 2A-6), tied for 16th in the Class 2A Poll, cannot rest on their laurels after the Talihina win. They must face the Hartshorne Miners (5-1, 2-0) at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Hartshorne.“The situation we're in right now is that we have two district losses,” Lang said. “If we lose one more, it (making the playoffs) is out of our control. Mathematically, we can still extend the season, but it's out of our hands (with another district loss). So, with a win (tonight), it makes everything else bigger. Our season is basically on the line. We've got to go get a win.”
