Poteau girls awarded top seed for LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament

The Poteau Lady Pirates won last year's LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament, and they have only lost once so far this fall season.Based upon those facts, the Lady Pirates were named the top seed for this season's LeFlore County Tournament, which will be Sept. 12-15 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.Four teams received byes into the winner's-bracket quarterfinals. Along with Poteau, getting byes were second-seed Spiro, third-seed Panama and fourth-seed Panama. As last year, there will only be 12 teams in the field, instead of the usual 13 — but there is a change.Last year, Arkoma did not have enough girls to have a high school team. Now that the eighth-graders are freshmen, the Lady Mustangs are back in the tournament field. However, this year, it's the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets who don't have the numbers. The Lady ’Jackets have yet to play a game this fall because of lack of players.Rounding out the final eight seeds are No. 5 Talihina (which has not played softball for about two weeks because of lack of players, partly caused by a player's injury), No. 6 Wister, No. 7 Howe, No. 8 Pocola, No. 9 Whitesboro, No. 10 Arkoma, No. 11 Bokoshe and No. 12 Leflore.
