Poteau Pirates welcome Tulsa Cascia Hall to town for district showdown; Quarterback Club selling red hoodies, T-shirts to make it a 'Red-Out' game

The Poteau Pirates football team jumped over one more hurdle last week amid the journey of the 2013 season. The Pirates got a big road win over the Fort Gibson Tigers, winning 42-28 Friday night.“Fort Gibson is the big win,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “They were picked to win our district, and they've been ranked really high all year. That was a big one for us. It was a big hurdle. Those have been two big wins for us — Sallisaw and Fort Gibson. Those were really big wins for our program. We just want to keep things on a roll.”To keep things on that roll, the fifth-ranked Pirates (6-0, 3-0 in District 4A-4) will need to defeat the seventh-ranked Tulsa Cascia Hall Commandos (5-1, 2-1), who will come to town Thursday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Costner Stadium.“We're the only unbeaten team in the district,” Werner said. “This is a huge hurdle for us. If we win this one, I guess you could say we're in the driver's seat for the district title. It's a big game. We're playing a good football team, so we're going to have to get ready to play.”• • •District 4A-4 StandingsTeam District Overall +/-Poteau 3-0 6-0 +44Tulsa Cascia Hall 2-1 5-1 +26Fort Gibson 2-1 4-2 +16Muldrow 2-1 2-4 +2Sallisaw 2-1 4-2 +2Stilwell 1-2 2-4 -23Broken Bow 0-3 1-5 -22Tulsa Rogers 0-3 2-4 -45
