Poteau, Pocola girls make winner’s bracket final

The Poteau Lady Pirates and the Pocola Lady Indians were seeded No. 1 and 2, respectively, in last month’s seeding meeting. Going into Tuesday night’s title game, the seeding held true.The Lady Pirates and the Lady Indians played in late Tuesday afternoon’s winner’s bracket final at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex to see who played for the county title later that night.The Lady Pirates handled Howe 14-0, then beat Heavener 4-0 on Day 1 on Monday at the PARC to make it to within two wins of another county slow-pitch title.The Lady Indians also went 2-0 on the day, blanking Cameron 11-0 in three innings and shutting out Wister 3-0.When action started Tuesday afternoon, only six of the nine teams were in the field. While Poteau and Pocola were in the winner’s bracket, Heavener, Panama, Wister and Howe were in the loser’s bracket.Heavener and Wister each went 1-1 on Monday. The Lady Wolves clawed Whitesboro 17-2 in five innings before losing to Poteau.The Lady Wildcats beat Panama 3-2 in eight innings before falling to Pocola.The Lady Razorbacks bounced back from the loss to Wister to eliminate Talihina 13-5 in five innings and do the same to Cameron with a 13-3 victory in four innings.The Lady Lions, who opened the tournament with a 14-3 five-inning, mercy-rule win over tournament host Talihina, staved off elimination with a 9-6 win over Whitesboro. The loss sent the Lady Bulldogs home.
