Poteau Police Search for missing man, Shawn Carnahan

Jessica Carnahan was woken up Saturday morning by her child when they couldn’t find her husband, Shawn Carnahan. According to a family member, they discovered that the window was open and that his mother-in-law’s car was also missing. A neighbor who witnessed Shawn Carnahan leave said that he was gone by 5:30 a.m. The family called him and went to look for him all day Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2:30-2:45 p.m.They then called Poteau Police Department and filed missing person report.

A be on look out order was issued for Carnahan and the vehicle. The vehicle was found at 8:30 a.m. but no missing person’ report had been made so no investigation was started. At 7p.m. the mother-in-law got call that the vehicle had been found on Polk Creek Street in Poteau off of the bypass. Carnahan was not in the vehicle. The keys were in it along with two changes of clothes but his medication, which he had taken from the house, was not found in the vehicle.

Poteau Police Chief Steven Fruen confirmed that the Poteau PD, LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department and numerous family and friends are currently searching the Polk Creek area for any sign of Carnahan. If you have any information, contact the Poteau Police Department.
