The Poteau Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday evening, one day prior to its $22.93 million school bond election Tuesday.

If passed, the bond would fund construction of a seventh- and eighth-grade academic center, high school classrooms and various renovations, including converting the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center into a performing arts center. Early voting began Thursday and continued into Friday. Voting Tuesday is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at regular polling places.

A community forum to filter questions about the bond projects is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Kidd Center.

The board of education meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Bert Corr Administration Building at 100 Mockingbird Lane.

Items to be discussed include:

• Discussion and vote on an estimate of needs for 2017-18 school year.

• Approval of contracts and agreements for Head Start and special education with Choctaw Nation; an athletic training program with Carl Albert State College; services to the 21st Century Program with Boys & Girls Club; random drug testing with Precision Drug Screening; and AHERA inspection with Precision Testing Laboratories Inc.

• Approving activity fundraisers for the school year.

• Approval of a local advisory committee on gifted education.

• Discussion and vote to approve declaring surplus items.

• Sanctioning booster clubs for the school year.

• Updating professional development requirements.

• Approving of “Interact,” a Rotary-sponsored civic club, as a school activity and to create an activity fund.

Poteau Schools Superintendent Don Sjoberg will discuss Tuesday and Thursday parent-teacher conferences in his Superintendent’s Report. He also will discuss accreditation status and give an update on academic growth for the school sites.

At final, the board will discuss and possibly approve employment for Albert McReynolds as a Poteau High School math teacher, David Jones as a Pansy Kidd Middle School custodian and approve a bus mechanic, with name listed as “to be announced.”
