Poteau track teams sweep titles at Wilburton Invitational

WILBURTON — The Poteau High School track teams swept the team titles at the Wilburton Invitational on March 29.The Pirates had 108 points, while the Lady Pirates scored 127 points.For the boys, Poteau had a new track record set as Dakota Clark's winning time in the 110-meter hurdles of 15.03 seconds broke the old mark.Clark also won the 300-meter hurdles (42.25 seconds), and was one of two Pirates to win two events as Trevor Shankle won the discus (122-2) and the shot put (45-2).Other Pirate individuals and relays placed in the meet. Jesse Woodson was runner-up in the 100-meter (10.72 seconds) and the 200-meter dashes (22.47), while Kendrick Hardaway was fifth in the 100 dash (11.29) and fourth in the 200 dash (23.25).Dylan Fox was third in the 800-meter run (2:25), Daniel Stacy was fourth in the 1,600-meter run (5:30) and Tyler White was fourth in the 3,200-meter run (12:28). Troy Barnett was third in the discus (112-0) and the shot put (42-9).Devin Anderson, Clark, Fox and Hardaway were third in the 1,600-meter relay (3:51), while Will Longenbaugh, White, Fox and Stacy were fourth in the 3,200-meter relay (10:08).As for the Lady Pirates, they smoked the field in the relays. Shelby Standridge, Natalee King, Brianna Steele and Latifah Harris won both the 400- and 800-meter relays. Colleen Peterson, Sheridan Hoyer, Deven Bond and Harris claimed gold in the 1,600-meter relay, while Jazmine Warren, Peterson, Hoyer and Bond took first place in the 3,200-meter relay.Individually, Poteau had a 1-2 finish in the 400-meter dash as Peterson was first and Hoyer was runner-up. Bond was first in the 800-meter run and second in the 3,200-meter run. Steele was fourth in the 100-meter dash, while Harris was third and Steele fourth in the 200-meter dash.The Poteau track teams will be in action next at the Alma (Ark.)
