Sherman Phillip Floyd

Sherman Phillip Floyd, 88, of Poteau died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in Poteau. Sherman was born March 9, 1924, in Tahona to King Philip and Bessie B. (Morrison) Floyd. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a retired teacher. Sherman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau. He was preceded in death by his parents, K.P. and Bessie; daughter, Toni Thompson; two sisters, Earlene Sallis of Oklahoma City and Bea Blankenship of Spiro; brother, Ray Floyd. Sherman started coaching in 1949 and was Poteau High School principal from 1972 mto 1986 when he retired.Survivors include his wife, Linda F. Floyd of the home; sons, John Phillip Floyd and Robert Mitchell “Bob” Floyd of Poteau; grandsons, Scott Thompson and Michael Thompson of Edmond; son-in-law, Mick Thompson of Edmond; brothers, K.P. Floyd of Gallatin, Tenn., Curt Floyd of Dallas; and adopted son, Phil McGehee of Poteau. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau with the Revs. Phil McGehee, Rex Blankenship and Clayton Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
