Spiro boys state bound again

For the second straight spring, we will have at least one LeFlore County baseball team make the state tournament. The Spiro Bulldogs won the Class 3A Regional Tournament on Saturday to make state for the second straight season. The complete schedule of the state tournament is listed at the end of this column. We had a shot at three other teams — Poteau (Class 4A), Talihina (2A) and Wister (2A) — making state, but Poteau and Talihina lost in the regional finals — the Pirates forced the if-game, but lost it to Byng on Monday afternoon at Town Creek Park. Wister was a rare 0-2 at the regional tournament last week in Ketchum to see its streak of consecutive baseball seasons with a trip to state end at six — dating back to May 2010.Someone Want to Share Memories about Bob Deleplank? It was brought to my attention by our editor, Mike Dougherty, that a longtime Poteau Little League coach passed last week, Bob Deleplank. We thought that there might be some individuals out there who were touched by having Bob as a coach, or even some pleasant memories of playing for him.Like sports correspondent Jim Marsh did earlier this year when Poteau High School legendary coach Sherman Floyd passed, I'm asking if there is anyone who would like to share such memories about Bob.Please send your memories to sports@poteaudailynews.com or even Facebook message them to me. You can also come by our office at 804 North Broadway, or mail them to me at P.O.
