Spiro hits the road to meet Roland in critical District 3A-8 football game Friday night

So far, the Spiro Bulldogs football team continues its winning ways as Thursday night's 42-13 win over Valliant at McClain Stadium made its winning streak reach four games. However, it's going to be a rough road for the Bulldogs (5-3 overall, 4-1 in District 3A-8) as they will travel to meet the Roland Rangers (6-2, 4-1) in a critical district football game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The ’Dogs, Rangers, Checotah Wildcats (Spiro's final regular-season opponent next week) and the Stigler Panthers are in a four-way tie for first place in the district with 4-1 records. If the postseason was to start today, Spiro would be the district runner-up, and be home for the playoffs. If Spiro wins its final two games, they will definitely be home for the playoffs, which will begin Nov. 9, and quite possibly win the district title.“We control our own destiny to make the playoffs,” said Chris Bunch, Spiro's coach. “We know if we win out, we have a good chance to win second place, and the one thing about that is that it gives us home-field advantage — but we have to take care of business. We have two tough games left. Roland has only lost two games, and one of those was in district play to Stigler. Then, we have Checotah. They're both going to be tough games for us.”— — —District 3A-8 StandingsTeam District Overall +/-Checotah 4-1 7-1 +52Spiro-x 4-1 5-3 +45Stigler-x 4-1 6-2 +38Roland-x 4-1 6-2 +37Eufaula 2-3 2-6 -22Heavener 1-4 3-5 -38Valliant 1-4 3-5 -49Idabel 0-5 1-7 -65x — Clinched playoff berth.— — —To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 9 east to Pocola.
