Spiro Mud Dawgs, Panama Razorbacks lose first game in regional

SPIRO — The Spiro Mud Dawgs were trying to stave off elimination Wednesday afternoon in the 2012 OK Kids PeeWee Regional Tournament.The Mud Dawgs lost 12-2 to the Coleman BRW Tuesday night in the last game of Day 2's slate of contests.Spiro was facing McCurtain with the winner playing at 1 p.m. this afternoon in another elimination contest, while the loser was eliminated.The other LeFlore County team in the field, the Panama Razorbacks, also suffered a loss on Tuesday, falling 15-0 to the Texoma Diamond Dogs.The winner's-bracket semifinals will see Coleman meeting the Diamond Dogs at 2:45 p.m. this afternoon, followed by the Atoka Yellowjackets meeting the Silo Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Those two winners will play at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the right to reach the 4:30 p.m. Saturday title game.The Diamond Dogs are 2-0 to this point, beating the Lane Eagles Monday night, then routing the Hogs.The ’Jackets defeated the Caddo Bruins 5-2, while the Rebels edged the Shawnee Outlaws 3-2.The Caddo-Lane winner will play the Outlaws at 11:15 a.m. this morning, followed by the Spiro-McCurtain winner meeting the ’Backs at 1 p.m. The 11:15 a.m. winner will play the Texoma-Coleman loser at 6:15 p.m., while the 1 p.m. winner will meet the Atoka-Silo loser at 8 p.m.Editor's Note — The Poteau Daily News did not discover until Wednesday that the Meeker Bulldogs, who were originally slated to be in the tournament, dropped out.
