Talihina High School wrestling back in full swing this season

After a season of not much mat action for the Talihina Golden Tigers last season, but that won't be the case this season.The Golden Tigers will have a representative at just about each weight class when the season begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse against the homestanding Poteau Pirates.Derek Lester will be at 106 pounds, Jasper Humphreys at 113, Triston Blemmel at 120, Ty Trowbridge at 126, Blake Smith at 132, Zach Hines at 138, Andrew Young at 145, Rodney Killingsworth at 152, Brian Collins at 160, Josh James at 170, Lance Barrier at 182, Dylan Chancellor and Bryan Young at 195, Jordan Blue at 220 and Jed Martin and Caleb Blue at heavyweight.“We are still basically a young team,” Talihina Coach Jon Bradberry said. “Most of our wrestlers are either first year or are freshmen. They are really working hard to try to get better. Our wrestling program is getting bigger every year. We started three years ago with one wrestler, and now have more than 20 kids in the room that are working really hard.”The Golden Tigers will not have any home duals this season, but will wrestle for a second time in Poteau in the Maverick Conference Tournament Jan. 27-28, 2012.
