Talihina returns to district play with showdown against Sallisaw-Central

The Talihina Golden Tigers football team got out of Saturday night's game against the McAlester junior varsity what it needed to, since there was a possibility of an open date when the original opponent, Union Christian, Ark., dropped out. In the end, the Golden Tigers prevailed 41-13 and found out some of their strengths and weaknesses.“We got out of it what we needed, and then some,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “They're so fast and physical, being a bigger school. We go over there, and we ended up grading out the best we've graded out all year. By playing them, they showed us what some of our weaknesses are, and we've been working on that — but it also showed us what our strengths are. So, it was good to get to play these guys to get us ready for the rest of our district season, and, hopefully, the playoffs.”However, playing on Saturday has given the Golden Tigers (5-0, 1-0 in District A-6) a shorter week to prepare for this week's opponent, the Sallisaw-Central Tigers (3-2, 2-0).• • •To Get There — Take U.S. Highway 271 north to Poteau.
