HARTSHORNE — The Poteau Pirates baseball team did something that really has not been done much this season — win back-to-back games.After run-ruling the Talihina Golden Tigers Tuesday afternoon at Town Creek Park, the Pirates opened play in this weekend's Coal Miner's Classic with a 5-2 win over the Stigler Panthers Thursday afternoon.The Pirates were slated to meet Muldrow Friday night in the championship semifinals for the right to play for the championship this afternoon in Wilburton.The other local team in the field, the Heavener Wolves, fell 9-1 to the Eufaula Ironheads.Leflore 8, Canadian 5; Warner 13, Leflore 5: In Canadian, the Savages split their two games in Thursday's three-way. In the win over the Cougars, a four-run fourth inning lifted Leflore past Canadian.In the loss to the Eagles, a two-run, inside-the-park home run by Seth Singleterry put Leflore ahead 2-0 in the first inning, but Warner struck for seven runs in its half of the frame for a 7-2 lead.Wister 13, Oktaha 1: In Oktaha, the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed.McCurtain 19, Arkoma 9: In McCurtain, the Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning and six runs in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.An RBI triple by Christian Davis and an RBI double by Nathan Gragg cut the McCurtain lead to 8-2.After the ’Dogs scored five runs in the third to make it 13-2, the Mustangs, whose Friday home game with Kinta was canceled due to the Eagles not having enough players to play, scored three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 13-9.However, the ’Dogs scored five runs in their half of the fifth inning, then scored once in the sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.
