Several local law officials will take part in Walk a Mile In Her Shoes today [Aug. 18] in downtown Poteau to raise awareness for domestic and sexual abuse of women and children.

The event precedes the Brave the Mud Run event Saturday, which is a fundraiser for Women’s Crisis Services. This event benefits the services and is sponsored by Connie Wise Real Estate.

Men in the community will walk a mile in high heels to shed light on the importance of these social issues. There also will be music and a cookout. It runs from 6-8 p.m. on Dewey Avenue. There also will be door prizes.

Poteau Police Chief Stephen Fruen, Assistant Chief Greg Russell, Investigator Travis Saulsberry and District Attorney Jeff Smith have all agreed to walk in heels.
