Poteau’s float in the 1908 runoff election campaign to determine the county seat was decorated with patriotic bunting. The horse’s tack and wagon wheel spokes were adorned in red, white, and blue garland. Small United States flags were attached to the horse’s headgear straps. The two men and 16 young women occupying the float are unidentified. Most likely Poteau’s queen, Ruth Morrison, was on the float.
