Fast-pitch season is less than two weeks away. Here's a look back at the teams from LeFlore County that made state tournament runs. The past decade includes one state champion from the county (2011 Panama) and two state runners-up (2015 Wister and 2019 Whitesboro).

The landscape is shifting for LeFlore County softball teams between Class 2A and 4A. Talihina has departed from the district format as it drops from Class 2A to A. Pocola is set to shake up Class 2A as it moves down from 3A, joining two county teams in a district.

Six from LeFlore County are competing in the International Finals Youth Rodeo, the richest youth rodeo in the world, this week in Shawnee, all of them boys involved in roping events.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club has arranged to pay the pool out of its account so that children can have lessons for free and parents do not need to pay. Parents who have paid for the first day of lessons can come back and have their fees refunded.

Thursday brings the start of Thursday Night Jackpots for this summer. Each one is at Ward's Landing at Wister Lake

Benito's Revenge, the golf tournament in which the Choctaw Country Club groundskeeper sets the pins in the toughest placement, will be June 26, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. This will be a three-person scramble. The cost is $120 per team.

The LeFlore County Bass Club Junior Bassmasters Championship that was scheduled for June 12 at Ward's Landing on Wister Lake (after being rescheduled from May) will again be postponed due to high and rising water levels. This post will be updated when a new date has been arranged.

Due to the high probability of rain today, Poteau High School golf team’s Mud Duck Golf Camp will be a two-day camp Wednesday and Thursday through Thursday at Choctaw Country Club from 9 a.m. to noon each day for ages 6-15. The cost is $20. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Poteau baseball head coach Andy Perdue, who has also served as the Pirates football team's defensive coordinator, officially retired, presiding over the baseball team's banquet on Tuesday as his last act for the Pirates.

Poteau's high-school golf team will have its Mud Duck golf camp June 1-3 at Choctaw Country Club from 9 a.m. to noon each day for ages 6-15. The cost is $30. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. that Tuesday. All are welcome to attend.
